The Latest Trends in Truck Parts' Technology

As technology continues to advance and evolve, as does the technology we’re seeing support trucks and truck parts' manufacturing. We’re seeing innovative advancements which have, and are, having significant impact on the transport industry. From improved safety, and improved fuel efficiency, right through to optimising driver and truck performance to lower operating costs and increase productivity for businesses.

With the transport game getting smarter and safer year-on-year, we wanted to share some of the innovative technologies around so you can stay on top of the latest trends in truck parts' technology:

  • Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS): From sensors, to cameras, and radar technology, truck manufactures have embraced this technology to ensure a better driving experience and enhanced safety on the roads. ADAS offer features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, emergency braking, collision control, fatigue detection, and blind spot monitoring, to name a few.
  • Electronically controlled air brakes: Electronic braking is the way of the future. While traditionally we saw air brakes as the go-to brake systems, technological advancements have seen the introduction of electronically controlled brakes.
  • Enhanced safety features: Safety is the number one focus in the transport industry. Technology has enabled manufactures to develop and build an array of safety features in their trucks. From lane departure warnings, collision avoidance systems and adaptive cruise control.
  • Electric & hybrid trucks: As technology continues to evolve, we have seen this evolution move the transport industry forward in the area of sustainability. With the increase in electric and hybrid trucks over the past few years, we’re seeing manufacturers create viable alternatives to the traditional diesel engine, reducing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Telematics: Tele-what? This is one of the most significant advancements we’ve seen in truck technology. Telematics enables truck owners and companies to improve their fleet’s performance, through gathering real time data (which we love!) on their fleet’s performance, GPS location data, diagnostic data and driver behaviour data.
  • 3D printing: 3D printing is being used across many industries, and the transport industry is no exception. In recent years we’ve seen 3D printing technology used to create custom parts for trucks. This is most definitely a space to watch.

It’ll be interesting to watch this space over the coming years. To us, the transport industry in Australia has unlimited opportunity to continue to evolve and advance through technology. So what does the future of truck and truck parts technology look like? Will we see self-driving trucks? 3D printers in parts departments? Only time will tell on these questions, but in the mean time - we'll be watching this space.
